IMG_7411.JPGAnother grey December day in the city, the shop windows are sparkling with holiday lights and displays, shoppers are filling up the stores and thronging the streets. Last night I was out andĀ those steely grey clouds spat out a few flakes, but nothing that you could actually call snow. I was hopeful that we’d get some of the white stuff, but alas no. On that note, if you can avoid going to Target on the Sunday evening before Christmas, I suggest you do. lol Horrible. Last night was the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year. It’s hard to believe that it’s already time for the days to get longer again. Where on earth has this year gone!? šŸ˜€

If you’re celebrating, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Solstice, have a great week! -Marie

IMG_7298.JPGCold and grey this morning in our little corner of NYC. We have a nor’easter headed our way for tomorrow, and two days of rain are forecast for us starting tomorrow morning. If only the thermometer was to dip a little further south we might get the white stuff. Either way I plan on staying in the cozy flat and maybe doing a little bit of baking. I think Nigella’s Gingerbread (or for the more serious bakers, here is the recipe with weights)Ā is called for. It’s a holiday favorite in these parts. Christmas Crack. If you want to make the same tweaks that I do, add extra grated ginger to the batter, grate some lemon zest into the icing and swap out the cinnamon for all spice. Hope you have a lovely week! IMG_7027.JPGIt’s a gorgeous cold and rainy November morning this Monday. Quiet, foggy, subdued, a steady drizzle of cold rain. The trees on our corner are getting barer and more winter-like every day as we close in on the end of our year. Most would be unhappy with this kindĀ of day, but IĀ love being outside in the brisk wetness, it’s sort of moody and there’s a poetry in this typeĀ of weather. It makes going back inside extra cozy. While I would prefer to spend this type of day in my flat, with a little puttering, cooking and a bit of knitting… IĀ am grateful to be employed. šŸ™‚ Ā If it’s not raining too much I might go for a little walk in the park later at lunchtime and take a few pictures.

Wherever you are, I hope you’re loving the weather- whatever it may be! -Marie

IMG_6940.JPGWhat a difference a week makes! We’ve had temperatures dipping low at night, and all the leaves in the park are changing colors and falling to the ground. The afternoons have still been warmish, mid 50’s. Ā It seems like these trees were green for so long, it’s kind ofĀ odd to see them all gold, the tree’s limbs becoming more and more exposed. It’s funny to me how quickly the turning of the seasons happens once it gets going.

It’s nearly time for the snow to start flying!Ā I, for one, cannot wait! Have a wonderful week! -Marie

I had a super fun weekend up at the Croakery helping Florrie host a Halloween party for a pack of wild 2-7 year olds. It was so much fun, with games, and food, and kids tearing around the garden. I got to spend some quality time ramblingĀ about the woods, getting my fill of country air and autumn woods. Ā Florrie inspired me to purchase some Blue Sky Alpacas Extra, and I started swatching for a new hat pattern. It is completely and utterly the most luscious thing to knit with. 55% Baby Alpaca/45% Fine Merino. Soft, springy, cloud-like,Ā and it knits up so fast!

Back in the city this Monday our corner is finally catching up to Florrie’s little mountain and the colors are showing, the leaves have begun to fall. There’s a new art installation going in, some massive bronze sculptures. Once the fence comes down I’ll share a few pictures. Ā Have a great week! -Marie

IMG_6514-0.JPGIn stark contrast to the riot of color upstate, the leaves in the city are finally just starting to turn. Our little corner is showing a blush of gold and orange. TheĀ wind is a bit chillier than it has beenĀ andĀ jackets have been spotted onĀ the city dwellers. Fall is happening people! šŸ™‚

Hope you all have a great week. -Marie
